One of our favorite things to do at the shop is sharing our weekly pull lists and must reads with one another. It’s one of the best ways we’ve been finding new things to read or even reasons to return to old favorites. We thought it
would be fun to start sharing our weekly picks of books we’re most excited about. Our hope is that in sharing our excitement you might discover something new to add to your list. Check back weekly on Tuesday evenings for lists from
John, Chandler and Jason & Jake. Each has a different background and perspective to share.
Spoiler alert: Also check back in the weeks to come for a chance to win some cool prizes including some of the books we’ll feature on our lists.

1. Radiant Black #1
Nathan is a norma
l person whose life is on the wrong path, spiraling toward toward financial oblivion, until he unlocks a force that grants him powers that can change his life. The only problem? The powers belong to someone else and they want them
back. The solicit promises a mixture between Invincible and Power Rangers. While MMPR was never my thing, Invincible was one of the best story arcs for a super powered character ,bar none. As a result, I’m definitely interested
to see if the execution lives up to the hype.

2. Casual Fling #1
Casual Fling #1: Jennifer has a life most would dream of–a high paying job, a luxury apartment in Manhattan, and a loving family. But one day she decides to cheat on her husband expecting nothing more than a one night stand. The person is not who she thought, however, threatening to expose the woman’s veneer as a façade. Independent companies are taking lots of risks, doing more genres and perspectives than in years past so I’m interested in checking this one out.

3. A Man Among Ye TPB
Normally I choose individual issues but I decided to spotlight this collected edition for a variety of reasons. One, Stephanie Phillips is on the kind of trajectory most writers dream of, almost reminiscent of Cates’ meteoric rise a few years ago. Two, I had intended to read this series about a female pirates Anny Bonny and Mary Read but never found the time to do so even though I’ve been reading some of Phillips’ other offerings. The two women are on a mission for gold, glory and saving the pirate way of life. It’s time to climb on board.
1. Radiant Black #1
Nathan Burnett has just turned thirty, and things aren’t great: He’s working (and failing) at two jobs, his credit card debt is piling up, and his only move… is moving back home with his parents. But when Nathan discovers and unlocks the ethereal, cosmic RADIANT, he’s given the power to radically change his fortunes! There’s just one problem: The powers don’t belong to him. And the COSMIC BEINGS who created them want them back… by any means necessary. This is supposed to be Invincible meets Power Rangers. I am a huge Invincible fan so I am very excited for this new series by Kyle Higgins.
2. Black Hammer Visions #1
This is an exciting reimagining of Jeff Lemire’s amazing Black Hammer universe. In this first installment Patton Oswald takes us into the world of Golden Gail. (Think Shazam but instead you are a child in the superhero form. Not so fun when you’re a 45 year old.)
1. Daredevil #27
Next to Venom this is our favorite current Marvel title. Overall we’re really enjoying the King in Black and having it bleed over into Daredevil has been fun. We’re also enjoying the parallel stories of Matt and Elektra with Matt in prison and her picking up his mantle. We don’t usually like seeing our favorite heroes replaced but this feels different to us. Excited to see where this goes both short term for KIB and longer term.
2. Wolverine Black White & Blood #3
Jake has really enjoyed the intro to Wolverine through shorter more self contained stories. X-men titles are just hard to jump into. This has has been a lot of fun without the extra baggage. Amazing art and fun stories earns this a spot on our list.
3. King in Black: Black Panther #1
Black Panther is another character Jake really likes but hasn’t read many of their comics. He’s come to know him via the MCU and some of the animated shows but is eager to dig into some comics featuring him. We’re looking forward
to a what sounds like a fun one shot connected to King in Black which we’re all in on anyway.
