One of our favorite things to do at the shop is sharing our weekly pull lists and must reads with one another. It’s one of the best ways we’ve been finding new things to read or even reasons to return to old favorites. We thought it would be fun to start sharing our weekly picks of books we’re most excited about. Our hope is that in sharing our excitement you might discover something new to add to your list. Check back weekly on Tuesday evenings for lists from John, Chandler and Jason & Jake. Each has a different background and perspective to share.

1. Cult of Dracula #1

A film crew is documenting the day of “The Cult of Dracula Mass Suicides,” interviewing the group’s leader Robert Renfield. The secrets of that day will prove unnerving to the filmmakers. As has been documented, I like the dark material, so I’m looking forward to this one.

2. Shadecraft #1

This is the book I’m looking forward to most this week. From the creators of Skyward, if this is half as good as that series, readers are in for a treat. (Also, if you haven’t read Skyward, do yourself a favor and read that one as well). Zadie Lu is afraid of her shadows as they are coming to life, threatening her. But is her family’s legacy tied to this?

3. Silk #1

Cindy Moon is a reporter for J Jonah Jameson’s new media outlet Threats and Menaces. Her worlds as a superhero and a reporter are about to collide as there are murders that draw her and those she love into a web of conspiracy and trouble. Will she find the answer before someone she loves dies? Marvel has a lot invested in this character and this should be a great jump on issue

1. Shadecraft #1

This book is made by the same creative team as Skyward. A personal favorite of mine and one of the first independent titles I read. I would read almost anything they make but this seems intriguing enough on it’s own. A teenage girl starts to notice that the shadows are seeming to come to life and possibly trying to kill her. Either way something weird is happening in her small town. How do you fight something that you can’t even touch? I have high hopes for this on

2. The Other History of the DC Universe #3

John Rudley is doing something really special with this series. He is taking some truly great characters from the DC Universe and putting a spotlight on them for the world to see their struggles and adversity they had to go through. This book focuses on Katana who is an awesome character that most people recognize from the Outsiders. But what was her life like before then? This is a truly intelligent look at racism and discrimination that takes you on a journey that you might never have thought of before. It also showcases some jaw dropping art from Giuseppe Camuncoli.

3. Flash #768

Wally West returns as the Flash! Or does he? After Infinite Frontier it was pretty clear that Flash, both Barry and Wally were going to play important roles in the future of this new Universe. However, one of them might be hanging up the red spandex before they even get a chance. This book feels very important to what DC is doing right now. You don’t want to miss out on this one!

3. Black Cat #4

We started reading Black Cat due to the KIB tie in aspect of the earlier issues. It actually has been one of our favorite tie ins so we’re staying on this one as it moves away from the KIB event. According to the solicit looks like this issue starts the book in a new direction as Queen Cat comes on the scene looking to tangle with Felicia. Hoping for more fun from her adventures in this series.
