One of our favorite things to do at the shop is sharing our weekly pull lists and must reads with one another. It’s one of the best ways we’ve been finding new things to read or even reasons to return to old favorites. We thought it
would be fun to start sharing our weekly picks of books we’re most excited about. Our hope is that in sharing our excitement you might discover something new to add to your list. Check back weekly on Tuesday evenings for lists from
John, Chandler and Jason & Jake. Each has a different background and perspective to share.
Spoiler alert: Also check back in the weeks to come for a chance to win some cool prizes including some of the books we’ll feature on our lists.

Began collecting and reading comics at the age of 8. Comics helped start his love of action figure collecting and photography You’ll most often find Balmory at our downtown location
1. Compass #1
Compass #1 from writer Greg Rucka, creator of Old Guard, this series promises Indiana Jones type adventure set in the 13th century. The old Indiana Jones novels from the 80s and 90s were awesome, so if this is half as fun, I’ll be in nostalgic heaven.
2. Seven Swords #1
This is a mishmash of several different characters (including D’Artagnan, Don Juan, Captain Blood, Cyrano de Bergerac) taking on Cardinal Richelieu. This sounds a lot like League of Extraordinary Gentlemen which means I’ll give it a go
3. Static Season One #1
Early into my comic collecting, the Milestone universe was born and I was on board. The new runs promise to pick up where they started almost 30 years ago by tackling the hot social issues.
1. Static Season One #1
Milestone is back and that means so is Static! This is one of the characters I love the most and am very happen to see him return to comics. This is a new origin story but his powers are the same and I trust Vita Ayala to do this character
justice. Milestone has never been one to shy away from current events and social issues and that is something that makes their stories special and grounded. Expect big things in the future!

2. Seven Swords #1
This book focuses on D’Artagnan and his hunt for the evil Cardinal Richelieu. In order to catch him he will need to unite the seven best swords in the land. Will they be able to set aside their differences to thwart Richelieu’s diabolical
plans. This one is interesting to me not only for the premise but for the fact that it’s written by Evan Daugherty, the screenwriter for Divergent and Snow White and the Huntsman. I am interested to see if he is able to be as successful
in this medium as he is in film.
- Stillwater #8
This is still my favorite series from the past 12 months. Chip Zdarsky has been nominated for writer of the year and if you read this series it’s very clear why. Right now all hell has broken loose in Stillwater. There is a power grab for control and even more survivors who just simply want to leave. But as the judge has made abundantly clear, there is only one way that you ever leave Stillwater
2. Venom 200
It’s finally here! Jake and I have been waiting months for this one. This book marks the end of an era as Cates and Stegman wrap up their run on this title. We can’t wait to see how the book that got us reading and collecting together finishes up! This one is not to be missed!
2. Radiant Black #5
This series continue to build and get better and more fun with each new issue. #4 saw a real curveball game changer thrown our way. Highly recommend jumping on this one.
3. Batman Zeropoint Fortnite #5
This has been a fantastic fun read for Jake and I. While Jake is far more into Fortnite than I have ever been it’s been a great batman story as well. This issue has a code for a Harley Quinn back bling to match the skin from issue #1.
1.Static Season One #1
Static is back in a brand new series! The Dakotaverse is returning with all these new milestone #1’s and static is the one i was most excited for. Virgil now will have a updated origin story to allow him to grow with the times!
