One of our favorite things to do at the shop is sharing our weekly pull lists and must reads with one another. It’s one of the best ways we’ve been finding new things to read or even reasons to return to old favorites. We thought it would be fun to start sharing our weekly picks of books we’re most excited about. Our hope is that in sharing our excitement you might discover something new to add to your list. Check back weekly on Tuesday evenings for lists from John, Chandler and Jason & Jake. Each has a different background and perspective to share.

Spoiler alert: Also check back in the weeks to come for a chance to win some cool prizes including some of the books we’ll feature on our lists.

1. Shield #1

This makes my top 3 for a different reason than most times. The writer on the book is former Brainstorm Comics and Gaming customer David Gallaher who also puts out The Only Living Boy and The Only Living Girl.

2.Barbaric #1

Generally Conan and Conan-like stories are not my cup of tea, but this one has an interesting twist–the character is cursed to do good. This one looks to follow in the tradition of the early Conan books with lots of uncensored violence.

3. Parasomnia #1

Cullen Bunn. You know if you see that name on the cover of a book (and it seems like he always has at least one a week at this point), I will be checking it out. A broken man braves a nightmarish dreamscape in order to find his lost son.

Daredevil #31

I don’t normally like to pick ongoing series but this one has been too good ever since the first issue. Chip Zdarsky has been crushing with everything but this was the first series of his that I ever picked up. This issue starts a new story arc called “Lockdown”. Matt is fighting for his life in prison, Wilson Fisk might be willing to risk losing everything, and Elektra is still trying to figure out what to do as the new Daredevil. It is a great time to be a Daredevil fan and I highly recommend you become one if you’re not already!

2. Crossover #7

Chip has taken over Crossover! Quite literally if we are to believe the solicits. He is taking over not only the writing duties but also as cover artist. The last issue left us with a big cliffhanger and I can’t wait to see what Chip does with these characters!

Parasomnia #1

This new series is by Cullen Bunn so it will most likely be dark and will definitely be well written. In this series the world is split between the normal and a “nightmarish dreamscape”. One man must venture in alone to save his child. This sounds like a great read.

2. Daredevil #31

One of the first books we added to our pull list and still a consistent favorite. Zdarsky is an amazing writer and is on a roll as of late. Elektra is getting tired of playing nice as the new daredevil while Matt struggles to survive as he serves his sentence.

2. Teen Titan Academy Yearbook

This series is what led Jake to jumping on a bunch of DC titles in recent months. Consistently fun, action packed and an all around great read. This is a one shot issue that gives us more backstory and history on the students. We’re also promised some potential hints at the identity of Red X.

3. Green Arrow 80th Anniversary

Our whole family really likes Oliver as the green arrow. This looks like a great tribute to the character from some amazing creators. Most exciting is the return of Jeff Lemire as he writes the final Greeen Arrow story. Lemire’s run on Green Arrow was amazing so I’d pick this up for his story alone.

1.Crossover #7

Chip Zdarsky is on crossover as this issue is all about himself being missing! Crossover has been really fun so far and I’m glad the creatives are having fun with this series!

Daredevil #31

We are seeing the return of a major villain with bullseye making his return. This has been my favorite book that marvel has been making and Chip Zdarsky is easily becoming one of my all time favorite writers.

If you’re a dc reader, this is definitely a must read as Williamson has made it very clear that this series is shaping the new world of DC. Six mini stories of six characters that will be important to the overall landscape of dc comics.
