One of our favorite things to do at the shop is sharing our weekly pull lists and must reads with one another. It’s one of the best ways we’ve been finding new things to read or even reasons to return to old favorites. We thought it would be fun to start sharing our weekly picks of books we’re most excited about. Our hope is that in sharing our excitement you might discover something new to add to your list. Check back weekly on Tuesday evenings for lists from John, Chandler and Jason & Jake. Each has a different background and perspective to share.

Spoiler alert: Also check back in the weeks to come for a chance to win some cool prizes including some of the books we’ll feature on our lists.

1. Night-Gwen #1

This one made my list just because it seems fun honestly. A mix between Harley Quinn and Batgirl, I’m looking forward to Marvel’s take on two of DC’s prominent female characters.

2. Bunny Mask #1

It wouldn’t be a John list without some representation by the horror genre. Released from a cave that imprisoned it, Bunny Mask walks the earth once more. I’m hoping this one fills my horror fix this week.

3. Cherry Blackbird #1

1. DC Pride #1

This is a book with a lot of great talent that have worked on some original stories for some great characters who are too often overlooked. While it is true that comics have begun to include lgbtqia+ characters they are still a very marginalized group. It is very important that DC, Marvel, and the rest of the industry continue their efforts to make comics inclusive to everyone, not just a specific demographic. Also for the Supergirl fans, the character Dreamer will be making their comic book debut in this issue.

2. The Six Sidekicks of Trigger Keaton #1

I will preface this pick by saying I know nothing about the writer or artist. The premise just sounded too good to pass up. The world’s most unlikable action star has been found dead leaving his 6 previous TV sidekicks to find out who is the killer. But where do you start when literally everyone is a suspect? And before they can even crack the case they must survive the stuntman war. I don’t know what that is but I am very interested to find out.

  1. Black Hammer Vissions #5

This a must grab for me for 2 reasons: Black Hammer/Skulldigger and Kelly Thompson. I love Kelly Thompson’s writing and Skulldigger has been one of my favorite editions to the Black Hammer universe (think Batman meets Punisher). This entire series has been a super fun reimagining of an incredible series by incredible writers and artists.

1.DC Pride #1

DC is celebrating the many characters that are part of the LGBTQ+ Community in a great way. Featuring stories from characters such as Harley Quinn to Alan Scott Green Lantern! I’m very excited for this issue. This book also contains the first appearance of Dreamer in comic book continuity!

2.Night-Gwen #1

In this universe, Gwen Stacy is the best psychologist in Ravencroft asylum but at night, she fights crime as Nightbird in the pursuit of Jackal! This sounds like a cross between Harley Quinn and Batgirl and I’m here for it!
