The staff of Brainstorm Comics and Gaming is dedicated to helping you, the comic collector and comic reader, find the comic book picks that are in line with your tastes. While many places simply want to make the sale, placing a book in your hand regardless of what you’re looking for, we pride ourselves on wanting you to find the book that will make you salivate with desire for that next issue. In order to assist with that goal, the staff is now putting together a list of the books we are looking forward to each week. Find the staff member that most resembles your tastes. Be warned, though–reading Top of the Stack may cause you to find more great reads.

We want to hear from you as well. Let us know what’s on top of your stack. Afterwards be sure to check out Stormwatch on YouTube where we highlight the top 3 DC, Independent and Marvel books we think you should keep an eye out for this week!

CHANDLER’S PICK

DRACULA’S PICK

DC VS VAMPIRES #1

THE SOLICIT

DC VS. VAMPIRES is a special, standalone twelve-issue maxiseries, that will pit the Justice League against a secret army of vampires, leaving our heroes unsure of who they can trust.

WHY TOP OF THE STACK?

The title tells you everything you need to know. Your favorite DC characters turning into vampires, what more could you ask for this spooky season! This is a stand-alone 12 issue maxi-series. Which means it is totally isolated from all other DC comics and you need zero background knowledge to jump in. These are my favorite kind of events. On top of that, we have not one but two great writers in Tynion IV and Rosenberg telling a creepy but exciting story. Otto Schmidt is an incredible artist who will be handling interiors as well as covers. This is a perfect book for you to kick off Halloween!

DRACULA’S REASON

I don’t need an invitation inside my local comic shop to go pick this one up. This is one I knew I’d be able to sink my teeth into. I’m hoping it’s a gold medal type of a book–I don’t do well with silver. I’ve been looking forward to this one so much, I’d even go to my LCS in the daylight for it. You can count on me being first in line. Until necks….I mean next time, folks.

JOHN’S PICK

TASK FORCE Z #1

THE SOLICIT

CHAPTER 1: DEATH’S DOOR (OR THE ONE WHERE CRAZY QUILT ALMOST GETS EATEN.)

On A-Day, hundreds of Gotham City’s most dangerous and deranged criminals were left dead after an attack on Arkham Asylum and now, they’re getting a second chance at life. A mysterious benefactor is bringing together a new Task Force and has recruited the only person who could lead them, someone who knows what it’s like to come back from a brutal death: Red Hood. Now Jason Todd has to unravel the mystery surrounding this team of the recently deceased while leading a line-up of some of Gotham City’s worst criminals who’ve ever lived: Bane. Man-Bat. The Arkham Knight. Sundowner. Mr. Bloom.

WHY TOP OF THE STACK?

Another great title for the season of ghosts and goblins. I love this twist on the Suicide Squad conceit with instead of their freedom from prison, the bad guys are looking for their freedom from death. More importantly, when you add the best Robin ever to the mix (Jason Todd), I’m on board for the chaos that is sure to follow. Everything about this book in terms of its premise just works.
